Algorand said the new smart contract will take a portion of the fee for each transaction on its network and automatically process it to buy verified carbon credits on the ClimateTrade platform.
According to Algorand Foundation CEO Stacey Warden, the move will allow the network to scale while maintaining a negative carbon footprint.
Warden added that the smart contract ensures that blockchain remains environmentally friendly in the long term and hopes that other companies will follow suit.
