The U.K. tax authority confiscated three non-exchangeable tokens (NFTs) and arrested three people on suspicion of attempting to embezzle £1.4 million.
According to The Telegraph, this is the first time British authorities have seized digital assets.
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said the move was part of an investigation into alleged VAT fraud involving 250 fake companies.
NFTs were seized along with other crypto-assets worth £5,000. Officials told The Telegraph that the seizure was “a warning to anyone who thinks they can use crypto-assets to hide money.”
