The Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA) announced that banks are prohibited from offering any services related to digital assets.

“The measure prescribed by the BCRA board of directors is aimed at reducing the risks associated with transactions with these assets that could arise for users of financial services and for the financial system as a whole,” the bank said in a statement.

The announcement comes just days after Banco Galicia, Argentina’s largest private bank, added the ability to buy and sell cryptocurrencies on its platform.
Also this week, Brubank, a domestic digital bank, began offering similar services.
