Epic Games, the gaming company behind the development of Fortnite, announced that it has completed a $2 billion fundraising round, bringing the company’s valuation to $31.5 billion.
Sony and KIRKBI, which owns LEGO, each invested $1 billion.
Epic Games said it raised the funds “to advance the company’s vision for the meta-universe and support its continued growth.”
“We are very pleased to invest in Epic to deepen our relationship in the meta-universe, a space where creators and users share their time,” said Sony Chairman, President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida.
For his part, KIRKBI CEO Soren Thorup Sorensen added that his company is happy to support Epic Games on its journey, “with a long-term focus on the future of the meta-universe.”
