The media report that the cryptocurrency exchange Binance has agreed to share user information with Rosfinmonitoring.
According to Reuters, Binance’s head of Eastern Europe and Russia, Gleb Kostarev, met with Rosfinmonitoring representatives in Moscow last April at the invitation of the Russian nonprofit organization Digital Economy Development Fund.
Kostarev said that he did not have much choice in the matter.
Kostarev subsequently agreed to share client data and set up a local unit in Russia through which authorities can request access to client names and addresses to help fight crime.
“If we consider establishing a local legal entity in Russia in the future, Binance will never share data without a lawful request from law enforcement,” Binance said.
