According to Ashley Alder, chairman of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), an association of market regulators, it is imperative to create a global regulatory body charged with coordinating cryptocurrencies.
The organization said such a body could emerge within the next year.
According to Alder, digital currencies have become one of three areas of focus for the authority, along with COVID-19 and climate change.
“Cryptocurrency has clearly raised the agenda. If you look at the risks that we need to address, you will see that there are many. There are serious concerns at the institutional level about cryptocurrencies,” Alder said.
In his view, regulators are far behind in coordinating cryptocurrencies.
