El Salvadoran President Nayib Buquele announced that the country has closed its $800 million bond debt, which was set to mature on January 24, 2023.
“Last year, almost every international news outlet reported that El Salvador would default on its debt by January 2023 because of our bitcoin bet. They said that without a deal with the International Monetary Fund, we would not be able to pay off our bond in 2023 because of our losses from bitcoin investments,” the president added.
