El Salvador’s Tourism Minister Morena Valdés says the country’s tourism industry has grown by more than 30% since the bitcoin law was passed in September 2021.
“We did a survey to check activity before and after the bitcoin adoption. The tourism sector started growing in November and December. The growth was more than 30%,” Valdes told local news agency El Salvador News English.
She noted that the adoption of bitcoin in El Salvador has also increased the number of tourists coming from the United States. Before the adoption of bitcoin, most tourists came from neighboring Central American Isthmus countries. Now 60 percent of tourists come from the United States, she said.
The minister added that tourism growth in El Salvador has exceeded government expectations, reaching 1.4 million visitors.
