Japanese video game company Square Enix, the company behind such popular games as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest, has signed an agreement to sell some of its intellectual property and studios to fund new investments in blockchain, artificial intelligence and cloud technology.
Swedish game company Embracer bought two North American studios from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Interactive, as well as the rights to the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain game series. The deal amounted to $300 million.
In early 2022, company president Yosuke Matsuda said that Square Enix intends to invest more in blockchain technology within a year.
