According to a company blog post, Starbucks plans to launch a series of NFT collections.
Starbucks said its NFTs will provide “unique experiences, community building and customer engagement,” complementing its current app-based digital ecosystem.
In addition to NFTs, the company mentioned creating a full-fledged “Starbucks Digital Community Web3 platform” that could be linked to mobile payments.
The Starbucks app is currently the second most used form of mobile payments in the U.S. after Apple Pay. The app is used by more than 30 million active users.
“Our approach to blockchain technology, which will eventually be independent of other circuits, will begin with blockchain-enabled collections and infrastructure, consistent with our longstanding commitment to sustainability,” the company said in a statement.
