Ethereum mixer Tornado Cash announced that it has begun using oracle contracts from Chainalysis to block the addresses of sanctioned wallets.
The move comes after the U.S. Treasury Department linked the North Korean Lazarus Group to the Ronin Bridge exploit that stole more than $600 million
“Maintaining financial privacy is necessary to preserve our freedom, but it should not come at the expense of noncompliance,” said the Tornado Cash team.
Oracle Chainalysis Sanctions can check if a cryptocurrency wallet address has been included on a U.S., European Union or United Nations sanctions list.
Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Semenov noted that address blocking is provided at the frontend level. In turn, smart contracts will not be changed.
