During a Senate hearing, Sherrod Brown, head of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, touched on the popular cryptocurrency ads that aired during the Super Bowl.
He said that most of those ads failed to tell people about the disadvantages of investing in cryptocurrencies, and companies failed to mention the serious price fluctuations, fraud and lack of regulation.
Brown criticized the cryptocurrency companies, saying they are just trying to make money and reach as many Americans as possible. He also added that if cryptocurrency is money, why do companies need to invest millions of dollars to promote it.
“I’ve never seen the Federal Reserve buy a multi-million dollar ad,” he stated.
