Wyoming U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis said the Federal Reserve should keep bitcoins on its balance sheet.
“Frankly, I think it’s a great idea for the Fed to acquire bitcoin because it has more than $40 billion in foreign currency reserves. Once there is a legislative and regulatory framework, it would make a lot of sense. The fact that bitcoin is fully decentralized will make it more widespread over time, and I think the Fed should keep it on its books,” she said.
In December 2021, the senator said she had begun drafting a bill that would provide clarity on the regulation of digital assets.
She has also been a bitcoin holder since 2013.
