Technical Director of the social network Vkontakte Alexander Tobol said that the platform will begin to support NFT and blockchain technology to monetize user content and copyright protection. This was reported by the publication Vesti.
Tobol noted that they do not plan to create their own blockchain, but will act as an intermediary. Vkontakte will use the Content ID system, which is already used to verify the copyright of music and videos.
“The big story here is probably about trust in the uniqueness of the content. But if you supplement it through Content ID – the assurance that it’s content that’s unique on this site or around the world – then generally it belongs to you by copyright. If this whole story – with the uniqueness guarantee on the one hand, and the copyright guarantee in different countries on the other hand – is combined around blockchain and NFT, it’s a straight up universal super-cool solution for authors, which opens up a straight up new world. I think things will change dramatically in the next few years,” he said.
