China’s largest messenger WeChat has integrated support for digital yuan (e-CNY). The service is available in all 23 regions where the digital currency is being tested, including Beijing and Shanghai.
Before using the digital currency, users need to apply for an account with WeBank Tencent.
WeChat app is used by more than 1 billion customers, which will greatly increase the distribution of e-CNY.
Earlier, the Chinese government authorized the use of digital yuan during the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The e-CNY had more than $315,000 worth of transactions every day at the event.
