Proof-of-Stake blockchain Tezos has activated a major update that has changed the consensus algorithm.
The Ithaca 2 update replaces the current Emmy consensus algorithm with Tenderbake, which provides shorter block creation times, faster transactions and smoother application performance.
The update also aims to improve network scaling with WebAssembly and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
Ithaca 2 also reduces the requirements for network validators by 25%. Thus, to become a validator you need to have 6,000 TEZs instead of 8,000 TEZs. This will increase the decentralization of the network.
