Qatar’s central bank is exploring the possibility of launching digital currencies and issuing digital banking licenses.
According to the bank’s head of financial technology, Alanoud Abdullah Al Muftah, the regulator will soon determine its focus on a number of financial technology verticals.
Al Muftah noted that the bank will also determine whether Qatar can create its own digital currency (CBDC).
She also said that now, together with the central bank, three companies in the payment sector have already entered the phase of testing possible solutions.
