The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has opened an investigation into cryptocurrency exchange Binance to determine whether it violated securities laws in the process of selling its BNB token in 2017. This was reported by Bloomberg.
The SEC also previously opened an investigation into the U.S. arm of the Binance US exchange to see if its employees were involved in insider trading.
In addition, the SEC is looking into the activities of marketmaking companies associated with Binance CEO Changpen Zhao.
Earlier investigations into the exchange were opened by the Department of Justice, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
