The United Nations (UN) Refugee Organization has accepted the first-ever cryptocurrency donations for humanitarian aid to Ukrainians fleeing war.
The UN has accepted donations of $2.5 million in Binance USD (BUSD) stabelcoins from Binance Charity. The funds will be used for the rehabilitation and support of refugees from Ukraine.
UN Refugee Executive Director Marie Gray said cryptocurrency donations will be vital in helping as many families as possible. Gray also praised the global cryptocurrency community for helping Ukrainians during this difficult time.
Cryptocurrencies have proven to be one of the biggest bailouts for Ukraine. Since the war began, the country has received more than $100 million in tracked cryptocurrency donations.
